A deep reddish-brown shade, it takes its name from wine produced in the Burgundy region of France - perhaps why it is such a popular colour amongst us ladies!
The deep, dark red comes from mixing red with a spot of blue and green, which results in brown and purple undertones.
This is why it also complements so many other colours.
But what does burgundy symbolize?
All qualities of a confident woman indeed!
You will know by now that we are huge advocates for helping women feel more self assured with the bag they carry; we recently released our 'style confidence' guide & survey results, packed full of tips for dressing your way to confidence.
With many of us soon to be returning to work (and many of us just needing a new handbag!), we have selected a few of our favourite styles featuring the beautiful shade of burgundy.
These crossbody options are the perfect hands-free handbag to hold your essentials in style.
Give a classic burgundy tote a twist with our selection of restyle accessories to match your mood, outfit or the occasion.
Or why not add a touch of burgundy to your current bag, using our accessories like the Ivy mini bags, tassels, straps or fluffy pom-poms for a playful touch.
Our resident stylist, Alison, takes us through 7 key looks we can create using burgundy and similar shades!
1. Dress for Success
Classic and contemporary, adding a pop of pink under this black shift dress gives it a chic, modern feel. The same goes for the handbag - adding simple accessories to it gives it an automatic lift.
2. Pink is Power
A fresh pink feels no less crisp when worn with a sharply tailored silhouette. Wear it with coordinating trousers for a spring-ready take on suiting, or alternatively, layer over a printed midi dress for a smart yet playful look. A clashing shade of pink adds a nice punch to the look.
3. Clash of the Prints
Nothing says power-dressing more than a crisp, tailored shirt worn with a pencil skirt. A subtle but clashing print worn on your handbag draws attention to all the right places.
4. Knock 'em down!
The epitome of retro spring style - a bold shirt dress teamed with a modernized version of the classic bowler bag. Throw on a pair of heels for a glam look; looks equally as good with comfy white trainers!
5. Friday Night Lights
Suitable office dress by day - *throws on heels and adds Ivy clutch* - perfect dress to dance the night away! A simple yet striking dress that compliments this exotic print clutch just beautifully.
6. Ladies who Lunch
One of our all time favorite colour combinations has to be burgundy with grey. Infuse a polished touch to your look by adding these colours together. Smart, luxurious but sassy - ideal for lunch with the girls!
7. Sunday Snuggles
Sundays are made for all things comfy, and this sweater looks like it would do just the job! Jeans and trainers keep the look casual with the printed clutch on the classic tote giving the outfit a new dimension.
